Hey all!
I'm brand new to this forum.
I have had my hoggie for almost a month, I *think* she is a she.. lol
I have named her Dora, so I hope it's a girl :P
I've heard you can tell by the tail, which is why I think she is female.
What do you guys think?

Could be - don't suppose you have a picture of the tail from underneath in close-up? |

I'd say male. Females tail is usually shorter after the vent. |

Hmmm... I would have said female myself. Not being very helpful, are we?? What was the snake sold to you as, and did you buy directly from a breeder? Did they say if they'd sexed it? |

lol, I figured someone on this forum would know for sure ;)
I bought her from a pet shop, and the owner was pretty sure she was female, but couldn't remember. He didn't perform the probes himself, another person did (who wasn't there) So I just took her home.
I *wanted* a female because I know they get bigger, and the owner seemed adamant that it was so I trusted him.
I think by the pictures she is female, but I wanted someone here to confirm it lol |

Mine was sold a boy .... and it looks a LOT like yours, dimentions and all. Mine's 7 months soon, only been eating properly past couple of months. But ... the more it eats the more I think it's a girl, it's bulking out and as it grows tail is looking short and shorter compaired to rest and looks mre like the girl pics i'm seeing. I don't know what to think. lol.
Will have to a vet if I can't figure it out by the summer lol |

Might be worth taking him/her to a reptile vet and getting it checked out with a probe. I suppose it only really matters if you were hoping to breed them, but as you say it's nice to know for sure. I would feel wrong calling a boy snake by a girl name! |

Its female tail is too short for a male, some females do have longer tail to vent ratio's but rarely as long as the males.
