Excuse the rather dodgy subject title, but my female hoggy has blessed us with a clutch of ten eggs which are now in the incubator. I've read that females can store sperm and potentially produce another clutch without further mating. If this is the case would anyone recommend leaving the humid nest box in her viv just in case or would this probably be a waste of time? Thanks - Andy
You know, it won't hurt (so long as it doesn't drive the humidity in her cage too high) I would leave it in just in case, I don't know about in hoggies but it certainly does happen in many other reptiles. I left a lay box in with my female cresties the whole season because sometimes they will lay (duds) without being bred and it's good to have a safe spot to do it in.
It's always good to provide a nesting box for hognose snakes. Some people have had issues with their snakes retaining the eggs for too long due to not having a proper place to lay the eggs and then the females become eggbound.
