my first feed is due in two days an am little worried, should i take them out their vivs an feed or not an how long should i leave the pinkies in if they dont eat?
now i am no expert but i will go on what i have learnt on here and my own experiances.
i would feed in the viv aslong as there is no chance of digesting subsrate and if there is cover with kitchen roll or similar. i have found that hoggie dont strike like other snakes so just warm the pray up to body temp and leave it on its back in its viv.
i have found if mine is going to eat it will nomally do so in the first couple of hours.
some other tips are to keep it nice an quiet in the room and maybe cover so the hoggie doesnt get spooked.
I put Wilbur in a small plastic tub (cricket box cleaned out) with his dinner and leave him in the dark for a few hours. If he hasn't eaten it within an hour he probably won't do.
all these fussy eater posts r makin me nervous for feedin day, the male hasnt eaten for two weeks now and she only eat every fortnight if shes in the mood, spoke o the guy i got them from and they are only on 1 pinkie at a time so i cant even downgrade them a size.
try braining the pinkies. this has worked for me in the past. put a big needle through the skull of the pinkie then squeze out a bit of grey matter and smudge it all over the head. then put it in a tub with ya hog. it's worth a shot.
With my two you have to wiggle the fuzzy's slightly (with forceps) and only stop once they have a good mouthful anywhere along the body. If you stop wiggling too soon they get distracted and forget it's there. Kermit will then gobble his down where as Miss Piggy will sit with it in her mouth and will not be hurried into eating it. Usually takes her about 10 mins. I feed them in a stacker box lined with an old towel.

they both ate i am so proud of them,im worse than a mother with a baby, i nearly cried, he wasted no time at all but she took a little encouragement, but yey. they did both take em sideways but no matter food is food. :-)
i don't give any of my hogs big meals. i feed all mine small meals 2 to 3 times a week.they have a higher metabolism than other snakes so do better being fed more than once a week. i read about this on a website a while back and tried it.
Hoggie09~~just pinkies then? huff still seems to be hunting an wasnt sure it i should give her another feed coz a week seems a long time if they are hungry.
try feeding him twice a week. if he still looks hungry try him on 2 pinkies at each feed. i like my snakes to be active to keep them fit ready for breeding so the smaller meals keeps them hunting and not just sitting there waiting for there next meal to be put in front of them. www.extremehogs.com is full of information what i go by.
