Holly
Billy
We keep them on aspen but they love the sand pits we've put in at the cool end and spend hours playing in them..

Do they get on well together in the same viv?
I was thinking about getting another hoggie, because I think I'd like to try breeding them one day. |

We don't keep them together. We will always house them separate. At the moment Holly is in a 35l rub and Billy is in a 9l rub.
We will try breeding from them in 2 or 3 years it's every girls right to be a mum and I see it as a part of our duty of care.

We've had no problems, The sand pits make up for about a 3rd of the enclosure. The sand just drops off them when they go back into the aspen.
I tend to lift the sandpit out b4 feeding as they are usually burrowed undernieth. I put the sanpits on stilts ( I stuck 6 plastic coke caps to the bottom) so it is raised up off the aspen and also acts as a hide. We put plenty of aspen under so they can burrow down and feel secure. |

Is the viv at the back of Holly's second pic one that you keep hog's in? and if so approx how much are they and what type? I think I have seen them like this one in my local petstore - which incidentally is one of the ones on the links page on TCS (sorry for swearing)!
I was thinking of using a spare fish tank to set up, but think I want one that will fit into my bookcase next to my armchair so I can just sit and gaze!! Also not so muuch chance of my dogs nosing round it so much if I put it there |

Kaz, your sites are so friendly they are fantastic!! I love them.
LDP, how old are Holly and Billy, and how long have you had them?... they look wonderful Will Billy's colour stay that slightly green colour as he grows or will it go more the colour of Holly? (or are they both similar colours, and just my eyesight going south along with the rest of me)?!??? |
