| I'm a new snake owner of a male western hognose. I just got him in his new home on Sunday. He spent Sunday and Monday exploring, but all of Tuesday and Wednesday in his hide. Should I be worried if he stays in his hide all day? The thermostat keeps the temperature at a pretty stable gradient with the warm side at around 85degreesF and the cooler side at 70degreesF. He's about 8 inches in length and being housed in a terrarium that's about 2ft by 1ft. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

| Sounds fine to me. It's a snak, they hide sometimes. Plus it's a new home so it's just settling in. no worries .. |

| Yeah, they do like to hide, it's almost certainly nothing to worry about. Your temperatures and set-up sound fine - it's good that you're using a thermostat too. He's probably coming out and nosing around when you're not around, I happen to know that mine do this because I find little tunnels in their bedding and bits of substrate in their water dishes. |

| Thanks! Yea, I've noticed him pop his head up in different parts of the tank now. I guess I just didn't notice him move under the substrate before. |

| He is the most docile little snake! He would hood, hiss, and puff the first 2 weeks, but after handling him more often, he's become so sweet. He eats like a champ every week and seems to be doing absolutely well in his enclosure! I couldn't be happier with my decision to get a hognose! |

| Great news! He might revert to the hooding and hissing on occasions - mine still do it sometimes, even after all these years - but I personally find it cute. They're great snakes! |
