It might not have had anything to do with what he ate, but it's probably impossible to say one way or the other. As he was wild-caught, he could have had parasites or an illness before you even got him. I would just put the experience behind you and don't let it put you off keeping snakes as pets. Are you considering getting another one?

Actually yes we are wanting another one but cannot seem to find a place that sells them or a breeder to get one from. Any ideas??

The only thing I can suggest is to look at your local phone directory for pet shops, but I guess you've already done that? Where in the US do you live?
You could post on the Reptiles for Sale board and see if there is anyone there who has hoggies near you, but a lot of the people on here are from the UK so you might not get a response.
