I can barely admit this, but we have lost our baby hognose. My daughter put him down on the floor, and he disappeared. We have turned the house upside down, and I'm having the furnace contractor come to open up the vents in case he went down there (he's only a bit wider than a pencil) but does anyone have any ideas as to where else we could look? Has anyone else found their snake in an unusual place?

check the edges of the room as snakes tend to get out then go along the perimeter also check around the door frame, once found one escapee going up the frame and the door (nearly squashed it). check up inside furnitute especially things like settees and chairs.
leave a couple of 2 litre plastic pop bottles (no lids) by skirting boards check inside each morning
snakes dont normally go far but i know how upsetting it is when one escapes hope it turns up soon Karen |

Hopefully the traps work, but if not you can also put a line of flour around the edges of rooms or across door frames on the floor to see whether the snake has moved rooms or is in a room.
Also check shoes, clothes, inside wardrobes and chest of drawers, you will be surprised how these little critters get in and out of places.

Check clothes! They love hanging about in pockets! We found our corn in the washer once so it's advisable to check everything before you put it in there.
You could even try throwing loads of clothes down on the floor in the room where he escaped and check them in the morning to see if he's inside one of them.
Have you put water down? That is the main thing- they can go ages without food but water is vital. I would put a small dish down in every room on the floor where he went missing from.
Also don't under-estimate where he can be- snakes can get anywhere. Loads of people from the forums have found their missing snakes high up like on top of kitchen cupboards etc. Don't think because he's small he could climb that high or that because a drawer is shut he couldn't get inside- he could be anywhere! So check everywhere.
Hope you find him soon. Never give up hope- some people talk about finding their snakes up to 2 years after they escaped. They are survivors  |
