Posted - 28/06/2010 : 23:58:17 I have done a bit of research on breeding hognose snakes, but I'd like some tips from some people who have actually bred this snake.
do you have to reduce the temperatures before you plan to breed? (the "brumation" cycle?)
about how old do the snakes need to be before they can breed? Or do they just have to be a certain length (I read they needed to be at least 16 inches)?
how long does it take for the eggs to hatch?
any other tips?
thanks! |

Posted - 16/08/2010 : 12:47:42 You can breed without cooling, but you will probably get better results if you do. The adults should be at least 2, if not 3 years old, the female around 24". Eggs take around 60 days to hatch. They are very easy to breed, hatchlings can sometimes be a bit awkeard to get feeding. I found the best way was to let them shed, then offer a defrsot pink on the same day. Those that don't feed are left a week, and offered again. Only after 4 weeks of refusing did I assist feed with mouse tail. A couple of feeds like this and most went onto pinks. Hard boiled egg white helped to get the last couple going. |
