ive keep reptiles for a number of years and i cant explain this at all. Ive got a western hog nose which has been with me for 8 years and have just found out its now a female, just last week she layed 25 eggs both me and my husband always thought its was male as in 8 years never layed one egg. i know they are not fertile. But its just strange after all this time. Any suggestions on this

MY big female has done this with 2 clutches this year, I didn't put the male in with her so she could have a yr off - seems hognose don't like resting such a waste of her energy but what can you do? 30 eggs between the 2 lots wish I'd put a male in with her now lol.

If they were yellow they probably wasn't fertile anyway.

Snakes can retain sperm from previous breedings, but fertility is decreased. My corn snake has just done the same

That happens very often with hognose snakes.
