Advice needed please. I ve put up concerns about this girl hog before. I m unsure as to what age she was when I got her, but I can only assume she is old. She has cataracs, is slow, and totally uninterested in any hanky panky whatsoever. I had to take my poor male out before he gave himself a heart attack. But she s a good feeder.
I ve noticed a large swelling/ blockage about a third of the way down her. Imaging a similar size/look of a large mouse just been swallowed. But going down no further. Now, she s shed, pooped, and eaten since its appearance, but I notice she s at it herself with her nose, and does a type of contraction on occasion from her neck down as if to push it further. However, as I said, its not food, and she seems happy. But bear in mind we ve no reptle vets over here.(Eire) I thought it was a digestion problem till her recent feed moved past the area. Any hints/ideas?? is it just old age..

I'm not too hot on Irish geography, I'm afraid, but the Wicklow one was the one that appeared to be particularly recommended in other forums, so I'm not sure how good the others will be. Anyway, they are here http://www.reptilevets.co.uk/reptile-vets/county
I hope something useful comes out of it.

Much appreciated, I ll try the ones up the North. Been to the one in Wicklow when a previous hog got eggbound... 180€ and she died two days later. The vets down south are nt trained in reptiles. They ve done weekend courses in the uk. And I had to stay and assist on my last girls "operation" as her assistant was AFRAID of snakes. Also they re unsure of dosage of anesthetic. I m a three hour drive from the North, further, depending where exactly they re located in these counties. But if you ve a couple of numbers, I ll ring first to see how experienced they are before I travel up.. So yes please. Thank you. And thanks for your ideas.

Also - I've just done a bit of a Google search on reptile vets in Ireland, and I did come up with a few. I don't know if you weren't aware of them, or if you have already tried them and found that they're no good, but there were practices listed in Co Wicklow, Co Antrim, Co Down, Dublin...
Do you want me to put any of their details up?

I'd personally be thinking along the lines of a growth or tumour if it isn't related to her digestion. It might be benign and nothing to worry about, but you'd need to get her checked out by a vet to be sure, which I guess isn't an option. You say she has started nosing at it, so unfortunately it does sound like it is giving her some discomfort or pain, even if she appears to be OK most of the time. I honestly wouldn't know what to suggest if you really can't get her to a vet. Have you had problems with any of your snakes in the past, and what did you do on those occasions? Do you have a local breeder who might be able to give you any ideas?
