My 20 year old autistic son adores his 4 year old snake, Dusty. On Monday, Dusty started putting out a really foul odor after eating a pinkie on Friday. He seems to be acting normally. He isn't playing dead or anything and he's never smelled before. He pooped a little bit on Sunday...but not as much as usual. It's Tuesday here now and we are worried. Should we go to a vet? Thanks so much for any help!!!!

Was it a sort of rotten meat smell, or more like poo? If the former, it could well be the defensive smell they make when they feel threatened. My Baldrick did it a couple of times when I first got him, usually around feeding time, and he didn't even play dead. It was really foul, but it turned out to be nothing to worry about.
How did it go with looking for a regurge?

Hi and welcome. How long have you had the snake? Has there been any problems with temperatures etc recently?

if ur still worried or problem persists then get him checked out not worth the risk otherwise

Wow, maybe he did spit up his pinkie. I'll check that out today. We already cleaned out the vivarium this week but maybe we missed it or it came out of him after the cleaning. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks!

out of all our snakes the one that stands out on poop day is they hoggie he is stinking beyond belief. Have you cleaned the housing for the hoggie out, could it possibly just be the smell from the poo?.

Or was it definately a poo, could it have been a regurgitated pinkie? that also stinks beyond belief.

and hello and welcome to the forum.
