Posted - 24/01/2009 : 15:14:26 Ok... when I bought Horace, the shop I had him from had a girly as well that was already on reserve for someone. The shopkeeper said that hoggies were the kind of snake that could relyably be sexed by their tail length, and proceded to show me the girl next to Horace, and the girls tail was much shorter and sort of 'stumpy'.
Is this reliable, as I have always assumed that Horace is a lad, but need to know as I am looking to get him a girlfriend this year as I would like to try breeding from them a few years down the line? |

Posted - 27/01/2009 : 11:34:47 Large tails generally indicate a male, whereas a short, stumpy tail indicates a female. If yours has a long tail, and thought to be female, has it been confirmed by probing? |

Posted - 25/01/2009 : 16:22:45 It is not 100% accurate, though. My female was sexed as a male when bought as a hatchling, based on tail shape/size. Turns out to be a female with a huge tail! |
