i was just wondering how much i should expect to pay for a red phase western hognose as the prices on 888 reptiles (http://www.888reptiles.co.uk/productdetails.php?ProductID=2242&ProductGroupID=1097) seem pretty steep!

By using 2 normal looking animals with one being a 100% het for albino, 50% of the progeny will be het for Albino with no distinguishing markers so the whole clutch is Possible het for rather than a guarantee.

so how do you get a 66% possible albino?
Mandie Posted - 23/04/2011 : 11:37:14
If you use any animal that is showing a recessive genetic trait on an animal with no hets or visual trait it will be 100%. This is how breeders spread the genetic's out in a species as all progeny will carry 1 copy of the gene, sometimes you get a surprise when you've bred a visual to a normal who happens to carry the gene too so produce the odd visual as well.

100%
willg Posted - 21/04/2011 : 11:26:16
what percent hets would they be?
Mandie Posted - 19/04/2011 : 09:07:34
You would also get normal het albino, out of a clutch of 10 last yr I got 2 definite reds whilst 2 greens with the rest being normals
RedHog Posted - 16/04/2011 : 11:01:14
You would get a red het albino, I have some red hets cooking at the mo.
willg Posted - 16/04/2011 : 09:39:47
and if you bred these to an albino would you get a red albino?
willg Posted - 16/04/2011 : 09:37:56
very cool! i must get my hands on some!

Think I must be missing something here as Red phase is believed/claimed to be a line breeding trait rather than a morph. There are no pics to illustrate what they mean by Red's, like normals there is a huge variation in the colouring, here's a pic of 2 I've got here that are breeding this yr.

Last yrs best youngsters from red x green phases, hatchlings are on the female green

From what I know that seems to be about average, depends on where you go as well.
Breeding season is upon us, so with any luck you may have some breeders close to you, or one of the reptile shows.
I paid 35 quid for one of mine at a show, but 70 for the other in a shop.
Generally show/breeder prices are cheaper.

Where are you local to??
