I'm so proud... my little boy hissed at me yesterday and today. Yesterday I scared him without thinking - reached in his viv to get his water bowl out to clean, and accidentally touched him whilst he had his head dug under some aspen - and he turned and flattened his head and neck and hissed at my hand!! bless his little socks

Today he was in his feeding rub and I tried him with a second pinkie, which he obviously did not want, and when he moved into a corner and I moved it over in front of him again, he hissed again. Brave little soldier. I was beginning to think that maybe he had been handled too much and may never do this, but it seems that he may be growing into it.

Did yours all do this from when you first had them, or did they sort of grow into it??

I believe a lot of hoggies are 'viv defensive' but its generally all just bluster... my little lad has never bothered me up to yet, except when I scared him and the following day... gone back to his usual placid self again now... but I love the way he climbs up my neck and has a look round my face when I let him roam over me... looks very curious as if to say, whatcha gonna do now mom ...

We just got our hoggie last Christmas and he is a on a hissy fit ever since! Hah hah... well, he hisses and "air" strikes (strikes but pulls back before hitting anything) when somebody sticks their hand in his viv. But, once we get him out, he is just content laying on your hand with his head up looking this way and that with his tongue flicking the whole time. He doesn't seem stressed, so I guess the hissing is just a, "whoa, whatcha doing???" reaction.

Wilbur grew into it too, but he's not done it for a while though (to me anyway- think he got his hood out for Lewy the other day- he can sense evil)
