ive seen on some pics on the net that you can use large aquirium gravel stones as substrate.. is this true??? does any1 use them??  |

I use aspen for all my adult snakes and paper towel for all my youngsters.
I do however use aquarium gravel for photographing them on, as it helps enhance the snakes.
As for sand, I would advise against it, I dont like using it for my sand boa's let alone my hogs. Due to the fact I prefer feeding my animals are all fed in there own enclosures.

Sand can be alright, but Wilbur didn't like it. I use aulboise too, although I've only just changed to that recently, before he was on aspen. Both are good for burrowing.
If you do use sand, make sure you feed outside the viv otherwise there's an impaction risk (digestive problem if he ingests some). |

I have always had mine on Aubious and had no problems and they can bury in it fine! |

Although it looks nice, I can't imagine those stones to be too comfortable or absorbant, and if accidently ingested, awfully difficult to pass. The only time I have seen snakes on something like that over here would be for display/sale at expos. |
