Posted - 03/01/2010 : 15:03:32 and its good that you've got a digi therm, dial ones are awful IMO!
make sure you allow plenty of time for any changes to work, so if you tweak the stat a little leave the temps and come back in half an hour or an hour to allow everything to heat up so you're getting a more stable reading |

Posted - 03/01/2010 : 15:01:20 TBH i know nothing about hoggies lol but for corns you want the warm end temp to be about 28-30*C so i'll talk you through it then just apply the correct temps for hoggies
if the thermometer was reading 25*C and i wanted it at 28*C i'd turn the dial on the stat up 3*C but ignore whatever the dial reads on the stat......it could read 20*C it could read 33*C whatever, just IGNORE IT lol
and likewise if the thermometer was reading 33*C and i wanted it at 28*C i'd turn the dial on the stat down by 4*C, IGNORING what the dial actually reads on the stat, again it's likely to be something completely different to what the thermometer says but it's the thermometer you want to be right NOT the dial on the stat |

Posted - 03/01/2010 : 13:48:25 basically ignore whatever the stat says on the dial and set it to whatever the thermometer reads (the therm/therm probe should be resting on the substrate above the heatsource)
although hoggies love to burrow try thinning out the substrate even more just directly above the heatmat as thick substrate will insulate the heat away from the snake |
