Hi folks
thought I'd pop a couple of lines that might be informative
I had a new royal that had mites, I have a possibly gravid female corn so asked around for a mite treatment without possibly harmful insecticides(the royal was in quarantine anyway but better safe) was given miteoff, a supposed inert treatment. I must admit it worked a treat. The only drawback was the six hours in a&e with
my son , massive allergy attack including blisters choking and not being well at all.
Now I know allergies can be hard to predict and maybe I should of evicted the family on treatment day....but on the box no warnings as to possible effects , not even a wash hands after use. The active chemical is sodium laural sulphate(in soap,shampoo,toothpaste etc) supposedly inert, till you read the test results,it is a known irritant with a possibility of bein carcienogenic at high temp.
Just thought someone else might wanna know

I issolated in a rub for 24 hrs no heatmat bathed him after that was up, he's now in a rub with a heatmat in a different room to the others. No mites visable, I'm gonna try feeding tonite since he was off his food

That stuff is NASTY! Definately not what we were using.
SPROUT: What form of heating do you have in the viv and was it switched off when you applied the Mite-Off? |

Don't believe Wiki. There are countless posters on there that don't have a clue. See if you can find the COSHH report on "Mite-off". That will tell you if there is anything in it that could be harmful in any way, shape or form. I don't remember anything hazardous being mentioned when I used SDS (proper name for it) at uni. We used it during DNA extraction. Not a problem for us humans but bad news for bacteria/small organisms.
Does your son get any kind of reaction when he brushes his teeth? |
