1:30 Withdraw Cash from ATM at 7-11
2:00 Walk around looking at best enclosures, hides, water dishes,
sand/substrate, driftwood/rocks and decor, thermometer
2:30 Check to see if hognose is still for sale
3:00 Ask for advice (what I need, how long to wait before feed)
3:45 Buy everything
4:00 Purchase Hognose Snake
4:20 Go home
5:00 Arrive home
5:45 Set up enclosure

congrates on getting your hoggie

Actually I decided to get it yesterday because I convinced myself that it would be okay for four days :P

The store told me that it was quite likely a male. I took it home and set him up. Having been housed on newspaper previously, he was excited to start digging in the sand. But then he flipped sand into his water bowl and somehow managed to also get a lot of the water out onto the sand, which made the sand clump up :P Maybe I'll switch to corn cob sand...

I also noticed that hognoses move with a snakey version of a penguin waddle when you handle them :P

Congratulations!

Bet you can't wait to get back

I'm away...my parents forced me to go to Guizhou...

glad to here you have sercured one. you know it will take ages for the 29th to come round lol. is it defo a male?
micstarz Posted - 16/07/2009 : 11:38:38
Haha youre parents are probably worst than mine animal knowledge wise then...

RIGHT NOW I AM SO HYPED UP!!! I put a 50% deposit on one of the hoggies - the fattest biggest one who I saw with a fat belly last time - the one that loves climbing onto the rim of his critter keeper and falling down...I can't wait till I get back on the 29th!!!!

P.S. It took me a lot of restraint not to type all that in caps lock...I'm so excited...it's supposedly a normal western hognose but it has a very interesting pattern...OMG OMG OMG SO EXCITED TO GET IT!!

Can't blame you- I wouldn't trust my parents with my animals either.

I asked my mum if she wanted to look after my Salamanders while I was on holiday (easiest option because she's scared of the snakes) and she says she didn't want to look after creepy crawlies. Had to tell her they were amphibians and not insects. She's not really good with creatures

This from the woman who though seahorses were mythical creatures until she saw one on Richard and Judy about 2 years ago

Nah...I don't really feel like risking it. They're probably better off at the shop. My parents...I'd never trust my mom with my animals and my dad doesn't even know I keep snakes!
sexychef Posted - 13/07/2009 : 15:16:19
as kaz says it is just the case of fresh water.
Kazerella Posted - 13/07/2009 : 11:32:21
Well that's something- hope he doesn't sell before you get back.

Are you sure your parents won't change the water while you are away? Hoggy's hide a lot so they wouldn't have to handle him or anything. Just pick up the poo (if any) and add fresh water.

I asked if I could put a deposit on the snake but they said three weeks is a long time for them to hold the snake for me. However, they were happy to but the snake I favored behind some of the other snakes so it would be less likely to be noticed (and they also put a sticker on it saying they'ed wait for me to buy it until the 1st of August).

Too bad I can't buy online...my parents don't let me, and I think it's sort of a hassle anyway...

Probably better to wait until after your holiday, but it'll give you something to look forward to when you get back

Have you looked online for an enclosure? Sometimes you can get a bargain on the classifieds ads too
sexychef Posted - 11/07/2009 : 16:42:27
can you put a deposit down on it and ask them to keep it on hold for you
