Im new hear and I was wondering if someone could please explain some biology im having problems understanding. Ive read and understand that these are rear fanged venomous snakes, however i keep finding conflicting infomation surrounding the nature of it. Are they rear fanged as in having venom glands, ducts etc? or is it toxic saliva?

They are rear-fanged, but do not have a venom gland. They have what is called a Duvernoy's gland, it's similar to a venom gland but is designed only to be used when swallowing food, and not due to being threatened or as a warning.

And I agree with what LouiseB said about swollen hand.

Hi, it's not toxic saliva, they have hollow fangs which they use to deliver the venom into whatever they have bitten. The saliva is, however, quite acidic, as with other types of snake.

Are you thinking about getting a hoggy or do you already have one? It's worth mentioning that they are not classified as a venomous species by the World health Organisation, because their venom is very mild and is unlikely to cause any major problems if you do get bitten. I've been tagged myself and I did get a swollen hand for a couple of days, but it was more uncomfortable than painful to be honest.
