Just found this site. I've been looking for a forum for hognose snakes. I got my son a western hognose for Christmas and it's quite an experience. Totally different from the ball pythons. I figured I'd join this forum to learn more about this cute creepy crawly.

Here's a picture:

His name is Zeke and he's only 80 grams and the store owner said he's well over a year old. Are they supposed to be that small? The store owner said he is a finicky eater - usually goes for months without eating, but ever since we got him, he has been eating weekly, so I guess he likes us better.

You could be right- mine doesn't eat if it's been cold (which it usually is over here ) and he's much more likely to eat if I leave the pinky with him than try and feed it to him with tweezers. He's too scared to take a dead one from me, so I bet a live rat would scare him too.

Wow... you guys have very nice pictures! Our hoggie ate every 7 days since December 26, so dunno why the store owner said he was finicky. although, i read that they can go through brumation if the temperature drops, so it could be the store owner didn't keep up his temps in fall/winter. Also, the store owner was feeding him live rat fuzzies. (Sorry, it is quite common practice in the US to feed live). I fed him pre-killed since they're opportunistic feeders in the wild, so that could be the problem as well, I don't know.

Hi and welcome.... my hoggie does not seem to be typical of others on here.... he eats every Sunday normally with no prompting whatsoever... Bless his little socks!

He's a nice looking little fella

Glad he's eating well. Hoggys are bad eaters I think, but they are still cute so it's ok

Welcome to the forum anatess - Yeah western hognoses are quite small things compared to a lot of snakes. Glad you've got him feeding well, they can be funny sometimes, not as fussy as Royals/Ball Pythons.

We also have a sister site http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk I'm sure people on there would love to see your pastel and spider
